Tips and Tricks

We have put together a list of a few tips and tricks to help you prepare for moving day and to ensure that the day goes as smoothly as possible.

If you are moving out of rented accommodation to your first home of your own remember that you will need to give your landlord notice in advance.  If you don’t you may end up paying for two places!

Try and de-clutter your property.  Getting rid of tools from the shed, items in the attic, items that have not been used for years around the house will make your move both easier and more affordable.

Flat pack furniture2024-02-27T08:59:49+00:00

You can save a lot of storage/transport space by disassembling any flat packed furniture, beds, dining room tables etc.

Make sure to take notes or photos to remind you how to put them back together!

Clothes can be left in draws and 1st Choice have hanging wardrobes to use on the day.

For any packing you do ask 1st Choice for complimentary boxes to use.  We sell bubble wrap, tape, paper etc.

Do not over fill the boxes you pack.  Also make sure they are taped up. Mark the boxes clearly on the top.

Pack heavy items in smaller boxes- as a rule of thumb if you can lift it so can we!

Sometimes there is a gap between the day you move out and the day you move in to your new place.  Will you need storage for that time?

We can offer you a secure storage facility should you need it.

Make up a box of essentials i.e. milk, sugar, tea, coffee, a kettle, cups & biscuits (enough for our team also!) on the moving day. This should travel with you in your own vehicle for easy accessibility at the final destination.

Meter readings2024-02-27T08:59:49+00:00

Take meter readings on the day of the move and cancel any contracts associated with property you’re leaving.  Also remember to take meter readings as soon as you are in your new property!

Take pictures of your gas and electricity meters (just in case you need proof later on)

Fridges & Freezers2024-02-27T08:59:49+00:00

Remember not to turn on fridges / freezers in new property for at least 8 hours while gases settle.
